How Does it Work?
AdBlue is a trade name for a solution used in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems in diesel engines to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. It is a high-purity urea solution that is composed of 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionized water.

Here’s how it works:

Storage: AdBlue is stored in a separate tank in the vehicle.

Injection: During operation, the SCR system injects AdBlue into the exhaust stream of the diesel engine.

Chemical Reaction: When AdBlue is injected into the hot exhaust gases, it vaporizes and decomposes to form ammonia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2).

Reduction Process: The ammonia then reacts with the nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the exhaust gases within the SCR catalyst. This reaction converts the harmful NOx emissions into harmless nitrogen (N2) and water (H2O).

Emissions Reduction: The SCR system, with the help of AdBlue, effectively reduces NOx emissions by up to 90%, contributing significantly to cleaner exhaust gases and compliance with stringent emission regulations.

AdBlue is non-toxic, non-flammable, and safe to handle, though it must be kept free from contamination to ensure the proper functioning of the SCR system. Regular refilling of the AdBlue tank is necessary as part of vehicle maintenance to maintain the emission control efficiency.
